Well, what about WINZIP. Together with WINRAR was the supporter of programs for compression and decompression. Obviously it's very useful and efficient even though competition has increased significantly. However, I recommend using it because its graphic is very nice and its functions are many. Not to mention that you can open many types of archives. I did not know archives as 7Z, Z, UUE.

Those unfamiliar with WINRAR. Together with WINZIP is the most popular compression tool. Of course it is to be recommended though, at least for the version that I possess, because it is not completely freeware, we must bear the registration window that opens every so often.

ZIP GENIUS is not out of hand because many files are supported and it can be considered as a valid competitor to WINZIP and WINRAR, which are not entirely free. Definitely download and try it if only to taste its graphics very well done. Remember to download, from the site, also "language packs" to use it in other languages.

KGB ARCHIVIER :

1. Very quick and easy installation.
2. User interface easy to use.
3. Different ways to compress files.
4. Data encryption with AES-256.
5. Language packs for different languages.
6. Minimal resources used.

On the KGB site, there are tests for comparison with other compressors and the results are very good. We use the usual WINZIP and WINRAR but remember that with the advent of open source, the best software are also free. Moreover, the KGB, has a good feature of data encryption. Well worth a try. And you do not forget to download the "language packs" for use it in other languages.

Well, these are the best tools to compress, decompress, create archives in a simple way, free and effective. There are many others around but these are definitely the best and freeware (for personal use). It's important to compress the files so they can be sent quickly and securely via email or FTP. Additionally, creating a password needed to access or encryption of data compressed using specific algorithms, making these applications required today.

For those who download through LIMEWIRE, E-MULE programs and other file-sharing or peer to peer softwares, I remember to scan any downloaded files with a good antivirus before opening them.
